Taipei, Jan. 8, 2003 (CENS)--Ta-I Technology Co. said yesterday that the production capacity of the firm's plants in Taiwan and mainland China would hit eight billion units in 2003, up 60% from only five billion units in 2002.

Ta-I now now operates one plant in Taiwan and another two plants in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, and Kunshan, Jiansu Province. The No. 2 plant in Dongguan is expected to be set up in the first half of this year, according to a resolution made at a board meeting held recently.

Beginning in the second half of 2003, the combined production capacity of the firm's three plants in the mainland would exceed that of its Taiwan plant. Its overall chip resistor production capacity across the straits now stands at about five billion units, including two billion units from Dongguan No. 1 plant, 500 million units from Kunshan plant, and another 2.5 billion units from the Taiwan plant.

Ta-T estimates the production capacity of its mainland China plants will grow to between 4.5 billion and five billion units in 2003, to exceed between 2.5 billion and three billion units in the Taiwan plant. Its revenue and profits from the mainland will also exceed those from Taiwan for the first time this year.

In December, the firm raked in revenue of about NT$85 million. Its revenue totaled NT$1 billion in 2002, meeting the revenue goal set previously.

Meanwhile, the firm's equipment utilization rate has reached 90%. The firm is optimistic that the rate will grow significantly and pave the way for the production capacity of up to eight billion units in 2003.
