Universal Microelectronics saw net EPS of NT$0.19 in first 4 months

Taipei, May 26, 2003 (CENS)--Universal Microelectronics Co., Ltd., a local manufacturer of power supplies listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, reaped net (after-tax) earnings per share (EPS) of NT$0.19 for the first four months of this year.

Universal Microelectronics has extended its production from power supplies and transformers to high-technology products including GPS (global positioning system) equipment, video phones, and VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) phones.

With revenue of NT$176 million, Universal Microelectronics rang up pretax profit of NT$16 million and after-tax profit of NT$14.4 million in April. During the January-April period of this year, the company raked in pretax profit of NT$22.32 million and after-ax profit of NT$27.5 million, respectively translating into EPS of NT$0.15 and net EPS of NT$0.19.

Although the second quarter of a year is traditionally an off-season for domestic electronic manufacturers, Universal Microelectronics expects its revenue for this month to rise to NT$200 million based on the orders received for GPS equipment, video phones, and VoIP phones.
