Taipei, Feb. 27, 2009 (CENS)--Motive Power Industry Co. Ltd. (PGO brand), a major powered two-wheeler (PTW) manufacturer, recently claimed that it aims to ship 45,000 PTWs globally this year, up from 42,000 in 2008, including the newly developed e-ByBu dual-power (lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries) electric scooter e-BuBu.

Motive Power also targets to win a 5% share in Taiwan's PTW market this year, raising it to 10% by 2010.

To more aggressively develop e-scooters, Motive Power has invested about NT$40 million (US$1.2 million) in domestic Wiz Energy Technology Co., Ltd., the developer of the dual-power system on the e-BuBu, the world's first electric scooter run on lithium-ion/lead-acid batteries.

On the e-BuBu, the lithium-ion battery stores the electricity for a more stable electricity supply than traditional lead-acid battery, which outputs higher-voltage power to drive the motor. This design, Motive Power explained, prolongs the life of lead-acid batteries by preventing frequent sudden discharges and also greatly reduces vehicular weight.

Motive Power plans to begin selling the e-BuBu in Taiwan in March this year.
