Delta to Introduce Extra Efficient LED Bulb in March

2011/01/19 | By Ken Liu

Taipei, Jan. 19, 2011 (CENS)--Delta Electronics Inc. announced on Jan. 18 that in March it will introduce a light emitting diode (LED) bulb boasting 50% more energy saving than comparable bulbs from Phillips.

The Delta bulb will be equipped with high-voltage LED chips developed by chipmaker Epistar Corp., and has reportedly drawn inquires from European and American lighting heavyweights.

According to Delta executives, the 8-watt bulb produces over 800 lumens, equal to that produced by a Phillips 12-watt LED bulb. The super efficient bulb is above the 800-lumen par set by European Union and the United States for an LED blub replacement for 60-watt incandescent bulb.

Industry executives pointed out that this is first Taiwan-made LED bulb in warm white to generate over 100 lumens per watt.

The company estimated shipments of its LED lamps to grow five folds this year relative to 2010 as its product lines have increased to cover streetlights, architectural lights, office lights and commercial lights in addition to bulbs. Throughout 2010 the company shipped approximately one million LED bulbs.

From the next quarter, the company will label its lamps with “Delta” brand in Taiwan.

Delta Chairman Bruce Cheng pointed out that the company has fully tapped its power-supply technologies to develop LED lamps. Unique technologies, Cheng went on, have improved power efficiency of the company's power supplies to 90%, up from 65% when it began making the devices in 1983.
