Taiwanese Handset Parts Makers Benefit from Apple's iPhone 5G

Taipei, Jan. 25, 2011 (CENS)--A couple of Taiwanese handset parts and component suppliers have greatly benefited from Apple Inc.'s move to increase its purchases of parts and components for its iPhone 5G, which is slated for launch this summer at the earliest.

For example, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. has garnered Apple's orders for headphones coming with iPhone 5G, while Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd., which has supplied connectors to Apple for some time, has also won the client's new order for iPhone 5G chargers. Noteworthily, Cheng Uei is expected to double its sales revenue to more than NT$20 billion along with the launch of iPhone 5G this year.

In the meantime, Gold Circuit Electronics Ltd., a printed circuit board maker, has also joined Apple's iPhone 5G supply chain with high-density boards (HDI). Reportedly, to fill the new client's order, Gold Circuit has actively expanded its HDI output at its China plant, planning to achieve maximum capacity of 400,000 square meters of HDIs per month, though the firm declines to comment on the news.

Coincidentally, two of Taiwan's leading LED makers, namely Epistar Corp. and Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd., have also received orders for LED backlights switched from Japan's Toyoda Gosei, which will also be used in iPhone 5G. Industry insiders noted that although Japanese LED makers supply a majority of its needed LED backlights, Apple has actually planned to add new Taiwanese suppliers to cope with rising costs caused by lingering the appreciation of the Japanese yen.

Largan Precision Co., Ltd. and Genius Electronic Optical Co., Ltd., both Taiwanese camera lens manufacturers, have also benefited from the upcoming launch of iPhone 5G by shipping their middle-to-high-end optical lenses to Apple.
