Asustek Scores Record Revenue in July

2011/08/12 | By Steve Chuang

Taipei, Aug. 12, 2011 (CENS)--Riding on strong consumer demand in emerging countries, the Taiwan-based Asustek Computer Inc., one of the world's top five PC suppliers by market shares presently, reported a new high revenue of NT$31.855 billion for July, up 12.7% from a month earlier and 38.1% from a year earlier, according to the company's financial statements.

For the first seven months of this year, the company's aggregate revenue amounted to NT$167.4 billion, edging down 0.48% from a year earlier.

The company's CFO David Chang said that recovery of the Chinese market for consumer notebook PCs and strong demand in southeastern Asian countries effectively offset sales declines in Europe and the U.S. to drive up his company's shipments and sales revenue in July. The company's notebook PC shipment totaled over 300,000 units to hit a single-month high in the month.

Despite mounting economic uncertainty in Europe and the U.S., Chang stressed that his company is still confident of gaining growth momentum from emerging countries in the remaining months of the year. For instance, the company's market share in Indonesia has shot up to 8% for the moment from 2% posted early last year. In addition to Southeast Asia, the company has also intended to state a raid on emerging markets in Central and South America, like Brazil, in a bid to secure sustainable business growth for the future.

Noteworthy is that tablet PCs have also served as another growth drive in the company's revenue this year, as its Eee Pad Transformer, which features high-profile keypad attachment and a reasonable selling price, has received raving reviews from foreign news agencies and has been well received worldwide.

Few would question that the company has actually been carving out its hugest success ever this year, especially when it already unseated its Taiwanese counterpart Acer Inc. as the largest notebook PC brand in East Europe and squeezed into the list of the world's top five PC brands in the second quarter.
