High-speed automatic trimming side sealing & cutting machine, clear holders making machine

S-DAI Industrial Co., Ltd., established in 1978, specializes in making machines for packaging garments, stationery, and flowers. The company currently concentrates on manufacturing machines that are especially easy to operate, and has also branched into niche models as printed-circuit-board (PCB) cutters, says S-DAI general manager Jiang Jyh-long.

After setting up the firm, Jiang had focused on machines to make garment bags. Over the past decade or so, however, domestic manufacturers of such machines have moved offshore along with the islands' garment manufacturers, so those makers who staying in Taiwan, Jiang says, have had to explore new markets.

The niche products first explored by S-DAI were machinery that makes floral-shaped bags and stationery-packaging. These two lines have grown steadily over the past few years, helping the company offset dwindling sales in the garment-packaging machine segment.

Over the past few years, S-DAI has introduced computerized models that automatically adjust bag dimensions. “Computerized models are 30% more efficient than manually controlled types,” Jiang asserts. “Our automated machines turn out 120 to 150 30-square-centimeter bags a minute. Our engineers and contractors develop all the software for the machines.”

Jiang says that the prices of his firm's products are 30% lower than their counterparts made by Japanese and Germany suppliers, yet rivaling them in quality. He attributes this feat mostly to Taiwan's well-established electronics industry. “Many Japanese and German stationery manufacturers and flower shop operators now prefer our machines to those supplied locally,” he states.

S-DAIs' monthly production capacity is 25 machines, most of which are shipped to China, Southeast Asia, and India, with the maker expecting to boost shipments to Europe soon. Meanwhile, the company is concentrating on making machinery circuitry to comply with the world-renowned CE-mark machinery safety standards.

Another revenue-maker for S-DAI is printed circuit-board cutting machines. According to Jiang, the company has captured 80% of this specialty market. “Our machines are very labor-saving and efficient, so only a few units are needed to achieve a huge printed-circuit-board output,” he explains. (BS)
