Taipei, March 8, 2012 (CENS)--China Steel Corp. (CSC), Taiwan's largest integrated producer of steel products, has recently been approved by the Indian government to set up a representative office in the capital New Delhi.

For the past several years, CSC has been stepping up deployment of overseas distribution channels as well as exploring new markets in South Asia. With the approval from the Indian government, CSC said it will officially inaugurate the representative office in New Delhi sometime in May this year, which is expected to help the company explore the Indian steel market.

CSC also plans to invest US$60 million, or approximately NT$2 billion, to set up an electric-sheet production facility in Mumbai, India. The production facility with annealing and coating equipment has annual production capacity of 200,000 metric tons of electric sheets, and will be built in two years after passing environmental impact assessments.

CSC said products from the proposed plant will be mainly supplied to India's manufacturers of medium- and low-end motors and transformers, with high-end electric sheets supplied to India directly from Taiwan.

In addition, C.S. Aluminum Corp., one of CSC's major subsidiaries, has recently decided to invest over NT$10 billion to expand production capacity of aluminum plates and coils in China to 120,000 metric tons per year there.
