Taipei, June 7, 2012 (CENS)--As part of its efforts to carry out the “2012 Export Dragon Program” launched by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) recently hosted the “Brazil & Mexico Procurement Seminar & Trade Meetings” in Taipei, where 286 one-on-one meetings among 25 foreign buyers and nearly 200 Taiwanese firms were held to generate on-site deals of US$44 million with follow-up opportunities of about US$51 million.

Wayne Wu, deputy chairman of the TAITRA, says that Brazil and Mexico are the two biggest economies in Central and South America, with annual imports reaching US$230 billion and US$350 billion respectively last year. Taiwan's exports to Brazil and Mexico came to US$2.35 billion and US$1.53 billion, respectively, in 2011.

The 25 buyers mainly purchased products as security devices, security systems, solar power systems, integrated circuits, computers, wind power generators, automatic equipment, LED, automotive parts and accessories, machinery as well as engineering chemicals.

AU Optronics Corporation (AUO) said after the procurement meeting that the Mexican firm Alternativas Company showed great interest in its solar power modules, mainly due to the opportunities generated by the Mexican governmental plan to develop green power.
