FPG and Lanyang Develop 60Ah Power Cells for e-Bus Application

2012/07/27 | By Quincy Liang

Taipei, July 27, 2012 (CENS)--Formosa Plastic Group (FPG), the largest petrol-chemical conglomerate in Taiwan and also involved in electric vehicle business, recently announced having successfully developed various power cells for e-buses.

Among the developed automotive-application power cells, Changes Ascending Enterprise Co., Ltd., a maker of anode materials for lithium-ion battery cells of the FPG, cooperated with local LiFePO4 cell maker Lanyang Energy Technology Co., Ltd. to jointly develop a 60Ah (amp-hour) LifePO4 cell, the highest-capacity on the island.

FPG said that when the cost of the high-capacity power cell drops, electric public buses are expected to be more popular. Industry sources said that FPG will be the first adopter of the new 60Ah power cells.

By winning ever more orders, Lanyang claimed, the company is expected to win the highest market share in the domestic pure-electric or hybrid boat application market. The firm has successfully developed rapid-charging systems as well as battery-pack exchange solutions. The company is optimistic in other application markets as electric fork lift, electric golf carts, neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV), unmanned carriers etc.

In addition to anode materials, industry sources said, FPG has been aggressively exploring EV-related fields as cathode materials, electrolyte, separator film etc..

Beside big battery pack makers as Simplo Technology Co., Ltd. and Dynapack International Technology Corp., many other companies or groups are already active players in automotive lithium-ion battery application markets, including TD HiTech Energy Inc., a battery management system (BMS) developer as well as battery-pack and -module manufacturer under the Welldone Group, and Pihsiang Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (PHET), a LifePO4 cell and pack maker under Pihsiang Machinery Manufacturing Co. (a major developer and maker of healthcare electric scooters and electric cars).
