Taiwan's Robotic Production Value to Challenge US$3.33B. by 2016

Taipei, Sept.3, 2012 (CENS)--After years of effort, Taiwan's intelligent robot industry is expected to grow rapidly in 2013 and challenge NT$100 billion (US$3.33 billion) in production value by 2016, said Eric Chou, chairman of the Taiwan Automation Intelligence and Robotics Association (TAIROA).

Taiwan's robotic production value reached NT$50.5 billion (US$1.68 billion) in 2011, and is expected to grow 10% year on year (YoY) to NT$55 billion (US$1.83 billion) in 2012, according to statistics from the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB). The scale of janitorial robots shot up from NT$200 million (US$6.67 million) in 2005 to NT$3 billion (US$100 million) in 2011.

Chou said the intelligent robot industry in Taiwan has been maturing, having supplied Delta Electronics Inc.'s industrial robots, Teco Electronic & Machinery Co.'s driving motors, Mirle Automation Co.'s servo motors, Taiwan Shin Kong Security Co.'s household security robots, Compal Communications Inc.'s entertainment robots, and Highspeed Digital Co.'s janitorial robots.

Citing Hiwin Technologies Corp. as example, Chou said the company recently innovated transmission systems and drive motors of articulated robots, achieving such production know-how independently. Hiwin will launch DELTA triangle multiaxial robots in 2013 to round out its product line.

R.J. Shen, director of IDB, said, due to graying population and low birth rates, many countries prioritize developing intelligent robots to help with domestic chores and mobility-impaired; while companies as Hiwin, Delta Electronics, Compal Communications, and ASUSTek Computer Inc. have been involved in technological integration and development.
