Cheng Uei's Revenues Peak in August Against GSEO's Decline

Taipei, Sept.13, 2012 (CENS)--The upcoming release of iPhone5 has not been kind to all component makers in Taiwan. Genius Electronic Optical Co., Ltd. (GSEO), an optical lens maker in Taiwan, saw revenues in August decline 0.57% month on month (MoM) to NT$865 million (US$28.83 million), lower than expected; while Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd., a major Taiwanese supplier of connectors, saw revenues surge 21% MoM to NT$9.522 billion (US$317.4 million) and expects more growth in September.

Largan Precision Co., Ltd., another major maker of optical lens in Taiwan, secured most of iPhone5's high-end lens orders to hit NT$ 1.534 billion (US$51.13 million) in revenues, up 30% MoM to be the second highest on record.

Largan and GSEO are both major suppliers of iPhone lens, but iPhone5's broader lens specifications left GSEO behind Largan in product yield rate, hence the contrasting revenue performances.

An institutional investor indicated that iPhone5's connectors and connecting wires have been transformed from 30 pins to 19 pins, with significant price increase, benefiting Cheng Uei's gross profit margin in the third quarter. Besides, the firm expects to reach a new revenue high again in September with the upcoming traditional peak season for commercial electric appliances.
