Taiwan's Industrial & Manufacturing Production Indexes up 2nd Highest on Record in August

2014/10/03 | By Judy Li

To date buoyant sales of iPhone6 have helped boost the downstream supply chain in Taiwan. In August Taiwan's industrial production index stood at 110.66 and manufacturing production index at 110.56, both  the second-highest monthly of their kinds, with the former up an annual 7.03% and the latter 7.2%, according to the statistics released by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).

In the same month the industrial production index of electronic parts hit a record high to rise 12.38% from a year earlier, with those of the IC industry, including wafer foundry, structured IC, DRAM, printed circuit board (PCB), and IC substrates, all rising obviously.

Driven by ballooning export orders, the machinery industry, including metal processing machines, petrochemical machinery, and semiconductor production facilities, presented the third consecutive monthly double-digit rise of 12.66% in August. Likewise, optoelectronics also showed the third consecutive monthly double-digit growth of 14.98%.

K. H. Yang, deputy director at the Statistics Department of MOEA, says Q4 is traditionally a peak  season for manufacturing, whose annual growth is estimated to remain 7%-8% in September as long as strong market demand for new models of smart phones continues. (JL)
