Domestic gas station chain company North-Star Petroleum is taking proactive measures to stake a seat in the booming electric vehicle market by charging in metropolitan parking lots.

North-Star has announced an MOU agreement with domestic parking lot provider City Parking, which has 610 parking lots in Taiwan. Initial plans include setting up EV DC charging lots in popular parking lots and using big data collection to establish a consumer model of EV owners.

A North-Star director speaking to the Economic Daily News stated that City Parking currently operates more than 600 parking lots in Taiwan through the direct operation and franchise model, and most of them are located in commercial areas such as hypermarkets, department stores, and office buildings.

The director pointed out that the MOU is just the first step, as North-Star aims to develop and negotiate more cooperation opportunities for urban parking lots and hopes to build more electric vehicle charging stations using existing infrastructure.

City Parking hopes to leverage North-Star's professional experience in the green energy industry. Both companies expect the first year will give priority to selecting 30 popular parking sites to build charging stations. The goal is that more than half of the parking lots can be equipped with charging piles.

In addition, North-Star is developing a cloud APP to integrate the cash flow and information flow across domains, in addition to providing electric car owners with better parking and charging experience.

As the EV market is still growing, North-Star aims to employ big data collection and establish a parking lot charging operation model and as criteria for optimizing charging services in the future.

At the moment, news reports indicate North-Star and City Parking will direct resources into building fast and normal charging stations in select parking lots for a trial run.
