TECO Electric & Machinery EV truck to be delivered by end of year

TECO Electric & Machinery's ambitions in the electric vehicle market are remarkedly proactive, with the company announcing a new president that has an automotive industry background, Chairman Chiu Chun-chi also pointed out that the company is also dedicated to developing EV powertrain systems. Throughout the latter half of 2021 and this year, TECO Electric & Machinery continues to promote results from its development of EV buses and EV trucks, while its factory based in India will also begin mass production operations before the end of the year.

TECO is actively developing powertrain solutions for EV passenger cars, EV buses, and EV specialty vehicles, offering power output between 8 to 272kW in flexible modularized powertrain systems. Reports say several of TECO's product lines are already in small volume production and delivery.

Newly appointed president Thomas Fan emphasized that the company is aiming to prioritize the global market, and nurture opportunities with big brands.

The company is currently partaking in Taiwan's first 3.49-toned EV truck testing operations, including on-road testing. Chiu says they are mainly targeting the logistics and transportation industry, aiming to enter mass production in Q3 and officially rolling out TECO's EV trucks by the end of the year.

In terms of the Indian market, TECO has supplied two Indian automotive brands with two of its EV powertrain systems for testing purposes. As of reporting, the brands are already conducting the final stages of testing. However, factory operations are not fully in place in India, and will only carry out small-scale production in Q2. TECO expects the EV powertrain system to be in full display at the end of 2022 and early 2023, and that production capacity in India could ramp up significantly.

For EV buses, TECO's self-developed EV bus powertrain system is already in mass production since the end of Q1. Aside from supplying domestic orders, TECO is looking to expand into the Japanese and Thai markets as well.
