Tong Yang expanding electro-plating cacapacities in Taiwan, China

Taipei, Nov. 11, 2004 (CENS)--Taiwan's Tong Yang Industrial Co., Ltd., the world's largest maker of aftermarket (AM) plastic auto body parts, saw its new electro-deposition plating (EDP) plant in Taiwan start mass production recently at an annual capacity of about one million pieces.

Raymond Wu, chairman of Tong Yang, said that another new EDP production line at one of his company's subsidiaries in Fujian Province, mainland China (Fuzhou Tong Yang) would start mass production in March next year at an annual capacity of about 600,000 pieces. Wu said that Tong Yang invested US$2 million to build the new line. Tong Yang now runs over 10 subsidiaries and joint ventures across the Taiwan Strait.

Wu said that there are only two major auto-parts electro-plating makers in mainland China, allowing unlimited chances for Tong Yang to develop the business in the huge market. Tong Yang aims to develop both original equipment (OE) and AM parts businesses in China, the chairman pointed out.

According to Wu, the quality of mold/die development can significantly determine the global competitiveness of local parts makers. He continued that the electro-plating and surface coating capability is also the basic requirement for a newcomer in the industry.

Wu claimed that Tong Yang's unmatched global competitiveness is achieved by the said three advantages and the strategy of focuses on making higher value-added items.

With the scheduled new EDP line, Wu said, Fuzhou Tong Yang is expected to outperform its counterparts in mainland China with unrivaled technical capability and win increasing chances to jointly develop products with auto makers there.

To effectively digest the flooding orders, Tong Yang will speed up establishing a new logistic center and a new dashboard facility, and expanding is electro-plating capacity. These jobs are slated for completion by the end of October next year.
