High-end LED lamps designed and produced by Goldyear.

Established in 1989, Goldyear Industry Ltd. (formerly Flying Dragon Electronic Co.) recently introduced a series of highly efficient light-emitting diode (LED) lamps with state-of-the-art design and functions and incorporating top-quality LEDs supplied by LumiLeds of the U.S.

Goldyear president Allen Chou states that his company developed the series, including table, downlight, track, wall, and outdoor-use models, by building on its R&D achievements in LED driver (electronic-transformer) design and manufacturing. The LED lighting sources used range from 1W to 18W.

According to Chou, Goldyear is one of the very few companies in Taiwan with self-developed LED drivers. The company also expects the drivers to be the first domestic products of their type to win UL and GS approval.

Goldyear has developed LED drivers with integrated touch-sensor switch/dimmer functions. Chou states that such models require a high level of technical ability.

According to the president, Goldyear was one of the most important suppliers of halogen-lamp transformers around 10 years ago, but the company withdrew from the business due to fierce price competition from local and mainland Chinese rivals.

Chou claims that the LumiLeds LEDs used in its products are highly energy efficient and have a guaranteed operation life of over 100,000 hours.

Goldyear currently produces its lamps in Huizhou, in mainland China's Guangdong Province. Its modern, 200-worker facility provides high-quality and cost-competitive manufacturing services, Chou says.

He believes there is significant market potential for LED lamps as general illumination devices in the near future. He says that Goldyear is fully prepared to tap the rising segment, which he expects to boom once the price of LEDs falls.
