Taipei, June 30, 2004 (CENS)--Delta Electronics Inc. has newly estimated its shipments of digital light processing (DLP) rear projection televisions to cross one million systems throughout this year thanks to its imminent rollout of the popular 65-inch models.

The company estimated the shipment figure to catapult it into the list of the world's top five suppliers of the devices.

The company muscled into the manufacturing in 1997 from power-supply manufacturing, in which it is already the world's No. 1 suppler with a revenue of US$1.2 billion last year. This year, the TV is expected to account for 20% to 25% of the company's total revenue, which posted at NT$49.5 billion (US$1.5 billion at US$1:NT$33) last year.

The company's executives pointed out that the company had used Texas Instruments chips in its TVs, allowing it to largely boost shipments to 25,000 TVs a month. Its total shipment will likely go beyond one million systems by the end of this year by counting in 47-inch, 56-inch and 65-inch models.

Delta ships its TVs mostly to North America and mainland China. To rapidly pump its products into the vast North American market, the company assembles the wares in Mexico. The company leaves research and technology work in Taiwan and manufacturing of light engines as well as printed circuit boards for the engines in mainland China.

The company is considering putting its brand names on its TVs, contrasting to its current status as an OEM/ODM-based supplier.

Delta executives boats that their company's DLP rear-projection TVs perform a quality definition that meets HDTV (high-definition television) standard, making them an ideal equipment for home theaters, video-gaming centers and education organizations.
