Shuter Enterprise Co., Limited was founded in 1979 and has since grown into one of Taiwan's leading manufacturers of home, office, and industrial furniture. The company espouses a management philosophy of providing premium-quality products and services, and is devoted to the development of human-oriented multi-functional furniture designed to create a comfortable working environment.

Shuter, which has earned ISO 9001 certification, insists on using virgin materials so as to assure high quality. It also insists, however, that all of the materials that it uses can be recycled, in line with the global spirit of environmental protection.

The company claims to be Taiwan's biggest maker of filing cabinets, which it markets under the "Livingbox" brand. These products, according to the company, now supply 60% of Taiwan's office-cabinet market.

Shuter products are divided into 12 categories: display book racks, mobile tip-out bins, steel-plate parts cabinets, office-automation filing cabinets, stationery and office peripherals, household filing cabinets, professional toolboxes, impact-resistant storage boxes, professional tool carts and working benches, anti-static organizers, environmentally friendly resource recycling boxes, and dehumidifier cabinets.

Headquartered in Wujih, in the central Taiwan county of Taichung, Shuter has a factory with a production space of 20,000 square feet that is capable of turning out 50,000 filing cabinets per month, along with other products. An in-house research and development department handles the development of innovative furniture with unique structures.

The long-term efforts of the R&D department have won the company numerous new-model patents in the United States and Taiwan. Two new models of office, home, and industrial storage cabinets can be completed each month.

Most of Shuter's exports currently go to Western Europe, North America, and Australia. Success and customer satisfaction in those areas has encouraged the company to expand into other overseas markets.

Wu Yi-jui, deputy manager of Shuter's head office, reports that his company has chalked up double-digit sales growth over the past five years. He attributes this improvement to the firm's constant efforts to develop innovative furniture products in line with the latest trends in the world market.

"Our goal is to create a more comfortable working environment," Wu stresses, "and when we design our products we always pay attention to the real needs of furniture users in the office and the home. We also insist on quality. Back in 1987 we were the first domestic manufacturer in this line to turn out magazine display racks made of galvanized steel plate."

The company notes that its OA filing cabinet is designed for assembly in five different configurations, meeting the needs of users whatever the time or place.

"We've maintained a firm footing in the furniture industry for almost three decades, through all of the industry's cycles of boom and bust," Wu comments. "I believe that our long survival is due to our insistence on the use of high-quality materials and the unique structural designs that assure a long life for our products."
